Bare Metal

In addition to virtual machines, the OpenStack deployment at CERN allows to provision physical machines via a component called OpenStack Ironic.

Ironic aims to provision bare metal machines through the very same Compute Service API used for virtual machines.

Note: Access to physical resources through Ironic is granted after an approval process, following the overall policy that compute resources shall be provisioned by virtual machines in general. If you need access to physical resources, please do get in touch with the Cloud team via the Service Portal.

Limitations

Please note that snapshotting physical instances is not supported at the moment.
